There’s been a little confusion  from some customers about the “Follow The Datatech Grapevine” button.  Click on the button if you would like to get email updates when we post a new article.  In order to do that though, WordPress (the blogging platform that we use) needs you to either enter your WordPress login information or (more likely) set up a new WordPress account.

So when you click on the button, a new window will open where you can enter your WordPress login info, or click on the “Register” link to create a new account.

When you click on the ‘Register” link, the “Get started with WordPress.com” page will appear.  One of the confusing things about this page is it wants you to enter  a blog address–and unless you want to start your own blog, you don’t want to use this page to set up your WordPress account.

Just to the right of the Blog Address, you’ll see a link to “sign up for just a username”.  Click on this link to go to the basic registration page where you can just enter your email address (which WordPress obviously needs to send you email alerts when we post a new article), username, and password.  You’ll actually want to click on this link first (before you enter anything on the “Get started with WordPress.com” page) because any information that you enter is blanked out anyway when you get to the basic registration page!

Lastly, you need to select a unique username.  WordPress will tell you if someone else has already used the username.  The usernames are “global” across the entire WordPress blogging system; they aren’t just used for our blog.  So you might need to tweak your username if it has already been used by someone else.

Note that if you want to leave a comment, you do not need to set up a WordPress account.  You should be able to leave a comment simply by entering your name and email address.

One other thing:  Datatech has a page on Facebook, and when new articles are posted on the blog a post will appear on our Facebook page as well.  So if you are already on Facebook, you can check our Facebook page for links to the latest posts.  You can also like us on Facebook and Facebook may (or may not) add posts linking to the latest blog articles to your News Feed.

We hope this information is helpful–be sure to let us know if you have any questions or feedback.
