FRESNO, CA – Datatech has learned in a move to curb loss of income due to recall, liability and other damages, Western Growers Association and the United Fresh Produce Association have joined in marketing a new recall insurance program.

In a formal marketing agreement, United Fresh and Western Growers will jointly promote the Western Growers Shield™, the associations call it ‘a first-of-its-kind insurance program.’ Leaders say it’s specifically designed to protect food companies from recall liability.

Speaking on the topic, Tom Stenzel, President and CEO of United Fresh says, “This program represents an innovative solution to a critical bottom line issue facing our members. Our Finance & Business Administration Council was very impressed with this program, and we look forward to working with the Western Growers team to bring recall insurance to every segment of the fresh produce supply chain.”

Tom Nassif, President and CEO of Western Growers sees the national scope of protecting their memberships, “United Fresh and Western Growers have a long history of working together to promote the competitiveness and profitability of the fresh produce industry. With United’s reach into states not currently served by Western Growers and relationships with food companies from farm to fork, this partnership is the next logical step in protecting the long-term viability of our collective memberships.”

Leaders say under the terms of the agreement, United Fresh will exclusively endorse and promote this proprietary program encompassing property, contamination, recall, liability and non-physical damage loss of income.

The partnership will take off from here and will further work to provide several other proprietary Western Growers solutions to the fresh produce industry.
